The 19th annual Celebration of Lights, presented by Steeves and Rozema, opens on Nov. 14 with the ceremonial flipping of the light switch by Santa himself. Join the organizers of the event on Nov. 14 from 6-8 p.m. for an evening of community entertainment, fireworks, food, horse-drawn wagon rides and much much more.

The lights will remain on daily until Jan. 4, 2004, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Each Sunday night in November and December enjoy free horse-drawn wagon rides by the Lights, courtesy of Damar Security, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Watch for the CHOK Radiothon Nov. 27 from 8:30 to noon. On Nov. 27 call 542-5500 to make a pledge. Come see the lights all along the St. Clair River, from Sarnia's downtown, along Centennial Park, to the Point Edward Charity Casino and the beautiful Blue Water Bridge. Preliminary tests indicate that a Lambton County resident may be infected with the West Nile Virus. Final laboratory results confirming the diagnosis are not expected to be complete for 10 – 14 days. This announcement was not unexpected, as the virus has been identified in Lambton County in the crow population, and a number of other human cases have been identified in other southern Ontario communities recently.

However, for the first time, the gallery will exhibit the works of the secondary school teachers in a group show. This exhibition will provide an opportunity for the public to see the work & the broad range of talent of those who teach their children. Exhibition runs from October 5th to 9th.

The Canadian Mental Health Association is offering Pathways Through Grief, a six week bereavement support series facilitated by Julie Acker. The series will assist bereaved participants to: gain a better understanding of the unique nature of grief; share in the support of others coping with similar losses; and learn strategies for self-care during the grief period. People are urged to eliminate stagnant water on their property, wear long-sleeved clothing, and consider the use of insect repellent that contains DEET when outdoors between dusk and dawn.

Tests indicate that two dead crows from Lambton County are confirmed positive for the West Nile Virus. The crows were found in Sarnia and Petrolia on July 17, 2002. These are the first birds from Lambton County to test positive for the virus this year.
